Our mission

We want to see a world free from malaria.

Incredible progress has been made in the fight against this deadly disease since the turn of the century. Deaths have fallen by more than 50%

But progress has stalled in recent years. Trends in cases and deaths have remained largely unchanged since 2015 and at current rates of progress, the global target to cut them by 90% by 2030 will be missed.

That’s why Comic Relief and GSK joined forces in 2015 to tackle the problem and improve the health of people living in several countries where malaria is endemic – Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Ghana, and the Greater Mekong sub-Region.

We had one main goal: to support organisations embedded in local health systems and communities to improve health outcomes and control the spread of malaria

We believe that not only is this one of the best ways to tackle the disease, but it also increases the resilience of the health system, so it’s better equipped to fight new pandemics like COVID-19.

We also know that ending malaria will require political leadership and strong commitment from governments. That’s why we have supported grassroots movements, youth advocates and storytellers to raise awareness of malaria and campaign for the changes that are needed to end it.
